Silver is the basis of inspiration for Andriy Kovalyk’s designs. As one of Ukraine’s most respected makers of jewelry and gifts, he first started in 1999 with interior design ornaments and today offers gift books, silverware, clocks, board games, jewelry, toys, silver chess sets and other silver goods.
The silver designs are enhanced with the magic of gold, diamonds, ivory, color enamels and other jewelry materials. Materials, both precious and semiprecious, help create exclusive works of art.
UNIQUE HANDMADE SILVER CHESS PIECES:
Any piece of Andriy Kovalyk Jewelry & Gifts House has its own character and artistic vibe. Some works represent literary and film characters, others mythology or canvases of famous painters. All of them are exclusive, hand-made, with their own individuality.
His mission is to bring people’s ambitious ideas to life and help their dreams come true.
Every piece is made in the best traditions of the bass-relief casting. It differs from other products on the market today in their entirely unique design and remarkable detail.
The chess tables and boards are made from natural wood and painted by an artist at Kovalyk’s studio.
The examples of the silver chess set shown here were inspired by Kovalyk’s trip to the Salvador Dali museum in Figueres, Spain.
SPECIALS MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES:
The materials used for this set are silver .960 gilding, Swiss hot enamel, wood oak, ash and Russian jasper stone. Weighing at a whopping 3129 grams.
The silver is used in a traditional gilding technique called gilt silver. It’s immersed in electrolytic liquid which results in gold ions on the surface of the piece. The final step is polishing.
Enamel is a coloured glassy substance that is added to the metal. First the artist prepares the enamel in a mortar and grinds it into small pieces. He then applies it very carefully to the individual pieces as the smallest of detail can drastically change the look and colour of the enamel. The piece is then baked between 700 to 900 degrees Celsius. Depending on how detailed the piece is the enamel can be applied using a brush or even something as small as a needle.
How much is a set like this worth? it’s reported to be 14,000$
In addition to the chess set shown, Kovalyk has many other designs. Here is set of checkers made with the same process.
Chess House brings you this art of chess for your enjoyment. This chess and checkers set is not for sale, although inquiries are welcomed if you are seeking a similar chess set design.
