Among hundreds of interesting libraried chess books in the Chess House vault, I took note of the century old chess titles. This one dates from 1914 and I have scanned a few pages of particular interest. Frank J Marshall hand wrote a personal holiday note to a "Mr. Cake" dated Dec 21st, 1917. Frank Marshall is considered one of the greatest American chess players at the turn of the century and his games are studied and reviewed by players more than ever today.
This book contains over one hundred and twenty-five of his best tournament and match chess games with annotations by himself and other well-known chess authorities. It also contains a discussion of the principles of over-the-board chess.
It was published by American Chess Bulletin.
The following scans are taken of the first 6 pages. You'll be delighted to enlarge and read them... certainly a contrast from today's writers.
Your comments are welcome. Return soon for more rare chess titles from the 1800's and 1900's!
