How do you choose a good size pairing between chess pieces and chessboard?

This video shows you how to combine suitably sized chess pieces and boards that fit well together, are not too crowded or too sparse. The basic idea is that the base of the chess pieces should be around 78% of the square size

The 78% guideline works well for Staunton style sets. Decorative or non-standard sets are much more subjective to aesthetics.
